About Miss Pixie
Let me tell you a little bit about myself!
My Name is Miss Pixie, and I'm the Director of Miss Pinup Australia.
Back in the eighties when all the 'cults' were in, I was introduced to the rockabilly scene - and it became a way of life for me. I would dress, dance, eat and breath rockabilly 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. I received a lot of interest from the media and appeared on many different television programmes including Simon Townsend's Wonder World, Level 23 and A Current Affair, as well as many magazines including Mode and Dolly.
I recall one Christmas, not long after I got into the Rockabilly scene, we had a big rockabilly ball. I found the most divine vintage 1950's ball gown to wear - and I thought that it was only fitting that I have the hair to match... As you do! I took a photo of Marilyn Monroe into a local hair salon to have my hair set to match my dress. After spending 3 hours in the salon and a whole lot of cash, I went home in tears, pulled my hair out which looked terrible and decided that the only way I was going to get my hair the way I wanted it was by doing it myself. The rest is history!
I started dancing at the age of 4 and haven't stopped since! I am a professionally qualified dance instructor and choreographer, specialising in partner dances such as rockabilly, rock'n'roll, lindy-hop, swing, jitterbug and many more.
I have been hired by many prominent people and companies over the years to set women & mens hair in the 1940's & 1950's style. I was hired by the "Powerhouse Museum" during their exhibition on the 1950's to set visitors hair. I have many authentic products from that era that I display & use during these exhibitions. Another one of my achievements being hired by a prominent Sydney Business man for a exclusive New Years Eve party that was held at pier 4 "The Sydney Dance Co. The Prime Minister at the time, Paul Keating, attended this function. Many of the guests chose to have their hair set by me at the occasion to fit in with the 50's theme of the party... we all had a ball!
Fast forward a few years, and now I run my own vintage photography company, Boogie Bop Dames, where I am lucky enough to have a job that I love - making people look & feel glamourous! That coupled with my love and passion for the 40's/50's era, I decided to make another dream of mine come to life - to create a vintage pinup competition open to women of all ages, shapes and sizes.
And Miss Pinup Australia was born!
